Description
Rarely seen for sale, here is a 2.91g fragment of the french iron meteorite La Caille. Sold in a box with label/certificate.
The meteorite was used as a bench in front of the church of Caille and was recognised as a meteorite by a mineralogist, Prosper Cyprien Brard, in 1828.
It is said the meteorite fell in the mountains of Audibergue and was recovered in the 18th century and brought back to the village of Caille where it was used by an iron worker.
Total remaining mass is 626 kg. Meteorite is classified as iron ungrouped.
In fact, the meteorite fell around 165000 years ago +/- 30000 years.
